Nestled within Avalon’s lush High Dunes, this secluded retreat replaces a 1988 home on an environmentally sensitive site. Strict environmental and zoning regulations required the new home to remain within the existing footprint, a major design challenge given the client’s desire to increase the interior square footage. Strategic cantilevered forms created additional volume while establishing a distinctive modern aesthetic. A concrete foundation and retaining walls form the home’s new lower level and provide an organic base that complements the dune landscape.
